About me…

I have recently shifted from a 23 year long career as an academic teaching and researching in critical social work, youth work and human services. I love the process of teaching and learning, the exchange of ideas helps us all grow, often in unexpected ways. I have a particular interest in queering social work and human services education and practice and am currently doing a PhD exploring these ideas.

Prior to my academic career I was a youth worker, primarily in the area of youth housing. Youth work is such important work. Young people deserve to have highly skilled, compassionate and social justice oriented workers. Never more than now is supporting young people to be their best selves more critical.

I am particularly interested in developing ways to support queer, trans and non-binary workers in youth work, social work and human service roles. Generally we are not taught or supported to be our authentic queer, trans or non-binary selves in practice. I hope to create a space where we can support each other and and by doing so, create change.
